Everyone has a sewer, whether you are a homeowner or own commercial property. Even government buildings have sewer systems. As everyone who has a sewage system knows, the pipes do not last forever. At some point, a pipe will break and will have to be repaired. When this happens, you immediately call the plumber because you cannot operate any type of property without a sewer system.
For the most part, sewer pipe repairs require digging trenches to get to the broken pipe and then removing and replacing the affected pipe. Once the repairs are completed you then have to fill in the trench and redo the landscaping whether it was grass or trees, bushes or flowers, you cannot just leave a pile of dirt sitting where the pipe has been replaced. Fortunately, there is a new technology that has been developed that provides an alternate solution to this age-old prob; it is the trenchless sewer repair.
What Is a Trenchless Sewer Repair?
A trenchless sewer repair is exactly what it says. You can repair your sewer line without digging a trench. It is a solution that is the result of a new technology that allows the structure of the sewer pipe to be repaired from the inside rather than from the outside, which would require digging and the messy landscaping problems that result from the repair. As an added bonus, it is a green solution to this common problem.
How Does It Work?
With a trenchless sewer repair, the plumber creates an entry hole. This becomes the center point of all of the repairs needed. Using this entry hole a video is created showing all of the damage, the type of damage, and where the damage is located. Once this is done, the plumber inserts an epoxy felt sleeve is inserted into the hole that was created. This sleeve is then inflated inside the damaged pipe which forms the new piping. After the new pipe is cured a camera is again inserted to ensure that the damaged portion has been fixed.
What Are the Benefits?
There are many benefits. First, most of the work is done outside your building. There is less waste than there is with a trench that must be dug. There is less disruption to the sewer or water services and your landscaping is not destroyed. Pipes that are lined using this epoxy resin technology can last up to 50 years. It takes far less time to utilize this technology than it does to have people come in and dig up your yard. Also, it won’t corrode or crack and so it will not be vulnerable to tree root invasions which are one of the top reasons you end up with this problem, to begin with.
How About the Cost?
The cost to repair the pipe itself is slightly higher from a materials standpoint. However, once you factor in the labor costs and the landscaping rehabilitation, the trenchless repair system is far less expensive. Since it takes less time than the trench method, you save on labor. And since you are fixing the problem from the inside out you are saving the downtime and inconvenience of no water or sewage service until the pipe is fixed.
